Lady Bears Turn “Sweet 16”

Coach Kim and the Lady Bears qualified for the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA tournament with an 87 to 67 victory over New Mexico last night. The fabulous Sophia Young achieved another career milestone by becoming one of only four elite players in the history of the game to achieve certain levels of points, rebounds, assists and steals. Equally as important for the Lady Bears prospects in the tournament, our outside shooting returned with freshman Jessica Morrow contributing a career high 16 points and Jordan Davis hitting three 3-pointers as well.

Baylor advances to the Pit at New Mexico for the Albuquerque Regional and will face the winner of today’s game between Maryland and St. Johns. The game will be set for some time Saturday.

Presidential Library Search Narrows

Much like Bobby Knight’s last trip to the Ferrell Center, Texas Tech received bad news and has been eliminated from competition for President Bush’s Presidential Library. Baylor, SMU, and the University of Dallas are the three remaining finalist. The ever-present Tommy Lou Davis has been shaking the BU donor tree mighty hard in the hopes of improving Baylor’s bid for the project. If you get a call from her, get your checkbooks out!

Baylor 2012 is Oversubscribed

Bear fans, consider this single fact and the meaning behind it – there are over 1,100 qualified students on a wait list to get into next fall’s class. What more needs to be said?

Truett Sets Records As Well

Baylor’s Truett Seminary led by Dean Paul Powell has set a new enrollment record of 430 students and with $2 million of endowment gifts in December now has an endowment in excess of $30 million. This is a very significant endowment level relative to other Seminaries. Congrats to Dean Powell.

Try-C Reunion

It’s difficult to follow a Seminary story with a Try-C call to arms but Baylor does have its diversity. A major Try-C Reunion is being organized for the weekend of April 21-23. Major events include a party at the home of Friends of Baylor Co-Chairman Clifton Robinson. All of you Try-C alums and Try-C Sweethearts are encouraged to contact Paul McClinton at crunch@medequix.com for details. Former Governor Mark White, Hewlett Packard CEO Mark Hurd and Coach Grant Teaff are but a few of the distinguished invitees.

Baylor Law Dominates ABA Meet Court Competition

Baylor fielded two teams, both of which went undefeated, at the Regional ABA Tournament. Both teams now advance to the National Championship competition in Chicago April 6-8.
