OUCH! BEARS LOOSE OPENER TO TCU
There was so much to be grateful for at Floyd Casey Stadium last Sunday: a
fabulous crowd of 43,000; the exciting new banners at the stadium celebrating
the legends of Baylor football; the legends themselves being honored at
half-time and by far the largest and most enthusiastic participation ever
by the student body. All of this served Baylor well in the eyes of
a nationally televised audience.
The only thing missing was a more favorable final score. Mark it down – we do have a good football team, we will win games this year and we will have plenty to be proud of and cheer for every weekend. Thank you to Coach Morriss and his staff for putting together such a fine product. Thank you to Athletic Director Ian McCaw and all of his staff for putting on such a great show Sunday.
U.S. SOLICITOR GENERAL IS “IN THE HOUSE”
Paul D. Clement, the Solicitor General of the United States, is the featured speaker at the Law School this week for Baylor University’s Public Leadership series. This is quite an honor to have Mr. Clement on campus.
BAYLOR 2012 SCORES AGAIN
Final numbers are in and the Baylor University Fall 2006 freshman class has an average SAT score of 1213! Seems as though we repeat this phrase often but “it’s another record”! The first two enumerated “guiding convictions” in Baylor 2012 speak to the support of excellence and the encouragement of the integration of Christian faith and the intellectual life. It’s clear that Baylor is furthering these purposes by attracting outstanding Christian students with great academic credentials.
BAYLOR’S BENJAMIN BECKER ENDS ANDRE AGASSI’S CAREER
The storied career of tennis star, Andre Agassi, came to dramatic closure
at the U.S. Open last weekend. Former national champion and Baylor-ex,
Benjamin Becker, defeated Andre before an incredibly “Agassi-friendly” crowd
in New York. Although sad for Agassi fans, it marks a huge achievement
for Baylor tennis as well as great national exposure for our program. Baylor
University Tennis coach, Matt Knoll, was interviewed during the national
TV coverage of the match.
Best wishes for Andre and good luck to Benjamin. By the way, Coach Knoll is rumored to have offered a scholarship to the baby of Andre and Mrs. Agassi (tennis star Steffi Graff) for the Class of 2022. Probably not a bad bet!

DR. DOUG HENRY NAMED “FACULTY MASTER” FOR BROOKS RESIDENTIAL COLLEGE
One of the important goals of Baylor 2012 is to create a more “residential
atmosphere” on campus. In furtherance of that goal the University
developed the North Village three years ago and now is under construction
with the Brooks Residential College. The Faculty Master actually
lives in the Residential College with the students and has a unique opportunity
for influence with its student residents. The selection of Dr. Henry
and his wife, Professor Michelle Henry, is quite an honor and will be a
blessing to all the students who live in Brooks College. Congratulations
Dr. Henry and Michelle.
BAYLOR FOOTBALL LEGEND ROBIN “BIG CAT” JONES
One of Baylor’s most beloved ex-football players, Robin Jones, will
be honored and named as a “Legend” at this weekend’s
Baylor game. In addition to being an All-SWC Defensive End, Robin
has been a very active Baylor alum. Friends of Baylor is
honored as well to have him as a member of the Steering Committee. Congratulations,
Big Cat. We’ll always love #82.
