Jeremy Wariner Wins World Cup Championship

Baylor-ex (and Clyde Hart coached) Jeremy Wariner returned from Europe
last week with a Golden League World Championship in the 400-meter event. Coach
Hart also coached Sanya Richards in her successful women’s 400-meter
World Championship quest. Coach Hart is a bigger star in Europe
than he is in Waco. Crowds at the track events in Europe approach
50,000 fans and the prize money at stake for Jeremy and Sanya was a significant
share of $1 million. Coach Hart represents Baylor with terrific class
and obviously success. Thanks and congrats Coach Hart and Jeremy.
Dr. Frank Beckwith Awarded Tenure
The highly publicized tenure case of Dr. Frank Beckwith achieved closure last Friday with the announcement by the Baylor Administration that he had been awarded tenure at the University. Dr. Beckwith is an internationally known Christian scholar, speaker and author. His notoriety primed a fair amount of media interest and comment when his initial tenure application was denied. The University’s process for appeal produced a different result for Dr. Beckwith. Congrats to Dr. Beckwith and the many other outstanding Baylor faculty whose great teaching, research and publications qualified them for tenure.
BU Golfer Bill Allcorn Wins Collegiate Players Tour National Championship
Baylor sophomore Bill Allcorn shot a course record while winning this
prestigious event at the Texas Star Golf Course in Euless. Bill is
the son of Baylor Regent and Pastor of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in
Abilene, Stan Allcorn. Congrats to the whole Allcorn family.
Bears to Rebound vs. Kansas State
It is too painful to review the losses to Washington State and Army so
we instead look hopefully to the Kansas State game this Saturday at 6:00
pm at Floyd Casey Stadium. Attendance has been great thus far at
home and we need to continue that atmosphere this weekend as the Bears
begin Big XII play. Coach Morriss and the team need support as much
or more than that extended for the TCU game. Surely we have burned
through all of the bad luck and good fortune will beset us this Saturday. Lets
turn this thing. Sic’em Bears!
