Bears Beat K-State – Tied for 1st Place in Big XII

Crawford in Baylor Football UniformThe Fightin’ Baylor Bears did just that Saturday night in throttling Kansas State 17-3.  It was an important rebound win for Baylor after two heartbreaking losses.  The Baylor defense was particularly impressive in holding K-State to just one field goal.  The “D” recorded this impressive statistic in spite of four turnovers by the Baylor offense.  It helped that our guys in turn forced five turnovers by K-State.  Some of the fans complained of “whiplash” from the many reversals of direction that the fumbles and interceptions caused.

Note that we have never beat K-State. We head to Colorado (who is 0-5) this weekend and we are undefeated in Big XII Conference play.  Hope springs eternal.

Welcome Richard Scott, Don Schmeltekopf and Bill Pratt

Richard ScottDon SchmeltkopfIt is with great honor and pleasure that Friends of Baylor announces the appointments of Richard Scott, Don Schmeltekopf and Bill Pratt to their Steering Committee. Dr. Scott is known to many of us through his outstanding efforts as Baylor’s Chief Development Officer.  Prior to leading the University’s development program Dr. Scott distinguished himself as the Dean of the Hankamer School of Business.  Dr. Schmeltekopf served Baylor as Provost under both Dr. Reynolds and Dr. Sloan and is widely viewed as the principal architect of Baylor 2012.  Dr. Schmeltekopf has also had an incredibly distinguished career as a professor and author.  Bill Pratt is well known to many in Texas Baptist circles particularly through his leadership at Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston and as a trustee for fellow FOB Steering Committee member Ken Hall at Buckner Baptist Benevolences.  Bill’s greatest honor may well be his marriage to Baylor Regent and everyone’s choice for permanent Homecoming Queen, Minette Pratt.

In addition to their stellar careers, each of these gentlemen enjoy outstanding personal reputations and most importantly have demonstrated histories of exceptional support for Baylor.  Friends of Baylor is proud to be associated with them.

Baylor College of Medicine to Build Hospital

Baylor announced last week that it’s Board of Trustees have given the go-ahead to build a private, adult hospital on a 35-acre site adjacent to the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Houston.  This announcement apparently reflects a different direction for the Baylor –St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital relationship.

Hoops – A – Comin’  - November 14th

Ferrell Basketball StadiumIt’s hard to imagine that we need to start talking about basketball after only one month of football, but it’s true.  Baylor men’s basketball tips off in barely a month in the NIT pre-season tournament. This is quite an honor for the men’s program to be invited to this prestigious tournament that begins November 14th.  Potential opponents in that tournament include heavyweights North Carolina, Indiana, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Gonzaga.  With another nationally ranked recruiting class, hopes are high for Scott Drew’s roundballers.  For anyone who has not had the pleasure to be exposed to the enthusiasm of Coach Drew and his staff, know that it is intoxicating (in the historic Baptist tradition only).  Coach Drew and his assistants are going to get Baylor to the Final Four, mark it down.  The new basketball practice facility will help speed that process as well.
