The Bear Foundation Pavilion was jammin’ as well. A big “sic’em” to Friends of Baylor Steering Committee members Cary Gray and Joel Thompson for their generosity in making the pavilion a reality. Between the Grant Teaff Plaza, the J-Hawk scoreboard (Jim Hawkins), the Jones-Stone Practice Fields and now Cary and Joel’s contribution to the Bear Foundation Pavilion there are plenty of Friends of Baylor bear tracks in that neck of the stadium. Thanks to all who make these facilities possible.
In addition to Baylor moving up six places in the 2006 edition of America’s Best Colleges survey by U.S. News and World Report, the Princeton Review has now designated Baylor as one of the nations best institutions for undergraduate education. Baylor is featured in the 2006 edition and commended for its “amazing facilities in the classrooms and labs.” Also lauded were small class sizes and academic programs. Thank you Vision 2012!
FOB Steering Committee member Judge Ed Kinkeade finds himself in the middle of a media firestorm this week over his support of Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers. Comments attributed to Judge Kinkeade as well as another Texas judge are being used to explore Ms. Miers’ perceived position on Roe vs. Wade. The media attention surrounding the situation is not unlike what Baylor grad and federal judicial appointee, Priscilla Owen went through earlier this year. Judge Kinkeade is a man of great character and not afraid to share his convictions. Regardless of your personal positions or party affiliation, you have to respect the judge for his courage. Sic’em Ed!
Check out the interesting article about Bayor’s Engineering School and FOB Steering Committee member Gary Heavin’s company, Curves, Inc. in this month’s edition of the Baylor Magazine. Gary has tapped Baylor engineering expertise to achieve the next level of technology and design for Curves fitness equipment. Curves has more than 9,000 fitness centers around the world and has been ranked as the word’s fastest growing franchise by Entrepreneur Magazine two years in a row. Congrats to Walter Bradley, Distinguished Professor of Engineering and his team for helping to “Pump you up”!
Baylor Insider editor Dave Campbell will be among eight inductees in the inaugural ceremony inducting members of the media into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Campbell served as Sports Editor for the Waco Tribune-Herald for 40 years and was the founder of Texas Football Magazine, published for the first time in 1960. It would be impossible to enjoy Baylor Sports without reading Dave Campbell’s rendition of the story. Congrats Dave! The model of great academics and research consistent with Christian principals was the subject of discourse at Notre Dame last week. Several members of the Baylor faculty as well as Chancellor Robert Sloan were guest panelists for the program. It is great to know that 2012 has drawn so much interest from the national academic community.
