BAYLOR DOMINATES BIG XII GRADUATION RATES
Baylor graduated 78 percent of the athletes – and 88 percent of the football players – who entered Baylor University during the 1997-98 school year. No other school in the Big 12 even came close, according to the figures released Monday by the NCAA.

Interestingly, U.T. only graduated 27 percent of its football players and its overall graduation rate for athletes (52%) was a whopping 19 percentage points below that of the overall student body. Baylor athletes overall (78%) graduated at a higher rate than the overall student body (70%).

Congratulations to Don Riley, Baylor’s director of student-athlete services, all of the coaches and especially all the student athletes.

BAYLOR HOOPS-IT-UP
Coach Kim and Coach Drew continue to make national recruiting waves as the early signing period approaches next month. Coach Drew now has (as reported by the press) three commitments from nationally ranked players. A forth recruit, due in at mid-term is even projected to be a top 30 NBA draftee! There is no subtle way to characterize this development – it’s UNBELIEVABLE!

On a development note, Baylor is in desperate need of a Basketball practice facility separate and apart from the Ferrell Center, which is used for all sorts of non-athletic events. We are the only Big XII school without such a facility. Several members of the FOB Steering Committee are discussing gifts to this project. Please e-mail us if you would be interested as well. Coach Kim and Coach Drew deserve our support.

LADY BEARS RANKED IN THE TOP 10
On the heels of the school's first NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance and fourth consecutive 20-win season, Baylor (26-9 in 2003-04) is ranked preseason No. 8 in the country by Sports Illustrated. Slam Magazine has the program ranked No. 3 in the nation.

SOPHIA YOUNG PRE-SEASON ALL AMERICAN
Junior post Sophia Young is a preseason second-team All-American by both Lindy's and Athlon magazines. Young averaged 16.7 points and 8.6 rebounds last year and was named to the coaches' All Big-12 team.

In the preseason polls, Lindy's has Baylor rated eight, while Athlon's ranks the Lady Bears 10th.

Baylor will open the seas0n Nov. 14 against #1 ranked LSU in the State Farm Women's Tip-Off Classic in Austin. The game will be televised live on ESPN.

BAYLOR 2012
An interesting development is the move by the Faculty Senate to endorse Baylor 2012. In short order the Board of Regents and now the Faculty Senate both, unanimously, endorsed Baylor 2012. We know the students share the sentiments so speaking for several thousands alums, I guess we are in good company!

CONGRATS TO SANTANA DODSON
FOB Steering Committee member Santana Dodson will be inducted into the Baylor Athletic Hall of Fame on October 29th. Santana was a dominant defensive lineman at BU and for Green Bay and Tampa Bay in the NFL. We will never forget his blocked field goal attempt by defending national champ Colorado to beat them in Boulder. Fellow FOB Steering Committee member Robin Jones opened the hole in the line that allowed Santana to burst through. (at least that is what “Big Cat” says S.D.).

IOWA STATE GAME
We waited till the end of the memo to mention the heart breaking loss at Homecoming to Iowa State. The good news is, we were a whole lot better than the final score. Coach Morriss fielded a team that was clearly superior to their Big XII opponent. That is important to note in this highly competitive league.
