BU Football
The Friends of Baylor Sports Department headed by sports editor Don Kimball has struggled to put a “happy face” on the results of the Texas Tech and Oklahoma State games the past two weekends. The 2006 version of the Bears has given us an unprecedented 3 victories in Big XII Conference play, credible bowl aspirations, very competitive down-to-the-wire losses to Washington State, Texas A&M and TCU, and then the unexplainable Army, Tech and OSU games. This conundrum leaves us no choice but to trust in the mysteriousness of God’s Will and refer you to Dave Cambell’s Insider for a more professional description of last weekend’s game – with the reminder of our view first shared after injury sidelined Shawn Bell for the season: “…regardless of what happens the rest of this season, we have seen the future of Baylor football and it is bright…very bright.”
By the way, the Baylor Bear Foundation will hold its annual membership meeting prior to the Baylor-Oklahoma game. The Baylor Bear Foundation does a great job in supporting Baylor sports.
Baylor Basketball – It’s All Good

Pick your category; recruiting, opening games, national exposure, men or women – it all looks great! Let’s begin with recruiting last week. Coach Drew signed the 18th best player in the Nation, #1 player in Louisiana, and 5th best guard in the country, LaceDarius Dunn to a BU letter of intent. (Click below to get the full story) Mr. Dunn is 6’4” and averaged 28 points per game as a junior and will join what the Dallas Morning News already called the “Best Backcourt in the Big XII.” Not to be outdone, Coach Kim signed the #1 guard in Texas, Kelli Griffin and the 13th best player in the country and #1 “Breakout Player” in the nation, Melissa Jones of Colorado. Coach Drew and Coach Kim are attracting fabulous athletes to Baylor and they play pretty good too. The men trounced Angelo State 90-65 on Saturday while the #19th ranked Lady Bears blasted North Texas 84-47 and Hofstra 81-71 in the Women’s NIT Tournament over the weekend. Both of the Baylor basketball teams will be exciting to watch. Click on www.baylorbears.com to hear and see a personal pitch from Coach Drew and Coach Kim for ticket sales. Baylor Law Ranked Too!
Last week’s edition of Time Magazine featured
a cover story about what America will look like when it hits the 300 million
population level. Lots of
bright economists, scientists, demographers,
sociologists, etc., all mightily opined with their views on how the country
will look, feel and believe. When it got to the “believe” part,
they looked to the Baylor Religion Survey for their predictions. That’s
right, even Time has to check in with God now and then
and thanks
to this Baylor 2012
driven research, the area code for
the call is 254.
Sepulveda Sets Another Record
Baylor All-American (athletic and academic) punter Daniel Sepulveda added a new record to his growing list of achievements last week. He now holds the record for career punts over 50 yards with 91 in total. He also currently holds the highest career punt average record in the history of college football. Not bad for a walk-on who doesn’t kick with an altitude advantage. Congrats Daniel, but if its all the same to you, we hope you don’t get many opportunities to add to your punt records against OU this weekend. We hope instead that Ryan Havens will set some kick-off records.
Congrats Coach Teaff
Coach Grant Teaff will be honored on December 28th by the Sun Bowl where he will be designated a “Legend of the Sun Bowl”. Coach Teaff ended his 21-year coaching career at Baylor with an upset victory over Arizona in the 1992 Sun Bowl. You can rest assured Coach Teaff will honor Baylor while he is being “honored” in El Paso. Baylor’s greatest icon continues to pay dividends to the University. Sic’em Coach!
