News flash: Baylor does belong
in the Big XII. Baylor can compete at the highest levels in football,
including beating
nationally ranked teams.
Baylor beats, #14 ranked in the BCS system, Texas A&M 35 to 34. Instead
of playing conservatively in overtime (and potentially wearing out like
Michigan State did vs. Michigan) Coach Morriss went for a 2-point conversion,
got it, and sent the Aggies up the Brazos without a paddle. This was
no run of the mill Aggie football team either. Stocked with great recruiting
classes, coached by one of the highest paid hired guns in the business,
and on a six game winning streak including a shellacking of Oklahoma
State on the road, this team had its sights set on a BCS bowl. Being
competitive in this situation means Baylor has the potential of “hanging” with
any team.
FOB Steering Committee Member Cary Gray reports
that the A&M radio
announcers, earlier in the season, debated the appropriateness of even
including Big XII statistics amassed in games vs. Baylor. Perhaps they
were anticipating the “L” statistic they just achieved in
the won-loss standings.
God Bless the players, coaches, and all the alums
who have patiently supported the program. A special “Bless you” to whoever it
was in Stillwater, Oklahoma at 11:00 pm Saturday night that continued
to raise a Baylor football jersey in the background of the live ESPN
sports broadcast. Contact FOB and identify yourself as we would like
to give you a “missionary reward”.

According to
the “Dallas Morning News”: Baylor Wins!
Some Baylor critics say the school has no business being in a major athletics
conference like the Big 12. Academically speaking, maybe they’re
right. Baylor has far and away the highest graduation rate for student
athletes (78 percent, which is eight percentage points higher than
the student body at large). Only the brainiacs at the University of
Kansas come within 15 percentage points of Baylor in the Big 12, and
in Texas, only Rice University has a better rate. Sic’em, Bears!

Mike was a stud football
player at Baylor but it was a real stud named after Mike that won the
prestigious Breeder’s Cup Mile horse race
Saturday at Lone Star Park. The owner of the 4-year-old colt was a huge
fan of the ’85 Chicago Bears team that Mike captained and thus
the name of this 16 – 1 long shot that won this weekend. Too bad
Baptists can’t bet!
There hasn’t been an election year with the significance of this
one in quite some time. Please vote. This is a Big’un. FOB Co-Chairman
Bob Perry certainly sees it that way as he was reported in Friday’s
press to be the #1 Republican contributor in the nation with $8 million
of donations. Even Democrats would call that “commitment”.

Please pray for former regent Dale Jones who suffered
a head injury over the weekend and is currently in a coma. Dale is
a wonderful
man and a very special supporter of Baylor. Please remember Dale
and his wife Anita during this very critical period.
