Santa Overwhelmed with Baylor “Acceptance” Letter Requests

SantaA priority item on many a family’s Christmas list this holiday season is an acceptance letter from Baylor for the fall ’07 class.  Applications for next year are running several thousand ahead of last year’s record pace which could result in a total of 23,000 applications.  Acceptance letters from the University have therefore been judiciously parceled out.  Determining the qualifications and make-up of this class is a daunting task for our Admissions Department.  Baylor 2012 has put a lot of pressure on Santa this season!

Jay Allison Gets His Bell Rung!

Jay Allison Actually, Baylor Regent and former football great Jay Allison gets to ring someone else’s bell, that being the New York Stock Exchange.  Jay will open trading on the floor of the NYSE on Friday, December 15th to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of his publicly traded company, Comstock Resources.  This is a huge honor for Jay and for Baylor.  Watch CNBC on December 15th before 8:25 am CST to witness Jay’s big moment.  Not bad for a walk-on from Brownwood!

That Good Ol’ Baylor “DNA” Line

Praise the Lord that the Baylor “family” has a strong tendency to send its children to the University as new students.  Its also nice when they are gifted in something many of us enjoy watching, Baylor Bear football.  That good ol’ Baylor line for next year includes the sons of Gary Joe Kinne, James Francis, Vann McElroy and legend Mike Singletary.  Coach Morriss is blessed to have G.J. Kinne, Chris Francis, V.J. McElroy and Matt Singletary as committed recruits for next year’s class.  The Dads were some of the most intense players to ever represent the fighting Baylor Bears.  If their sons are a combination of their Mother’s athletic talent and their Pop’s intensity, they might make pretty good players.

Daniel Sepulveda – All World

Daniel
Baylor punter Daniel Sepulveda was named the Ray Guy award winner as the nation’s best punter for the second time in his career.  Add this to his All-American status as well as his academic All-American designation and well, that pretty much covers it all.  Daniel, a former walk-on, has had an amazing career at Baylor as an athlete and a student.  As our punter, Daniel was a “weapon” and a leader on the team.  We look forward to watching him next year on Sundays, after church of course. Thank you and Sic’em Daniel.

Baylor Basketball “Rounding” Out Nicely

Women's basketballAs expected, Coach Kim and Coach Drew are producing a great basketball product this season.  The Lady Bears are currently ranked 9th in the nation with recent victories over Southeast Missouri and Sam Houston State.

Men's basketballThe men have an outstanding record of 7 and 2 and lost a squeaker to SEC member South Carolina this past Saturday.  The men travel back east this weekend for an interesting match-up with Big East powerhouse Syracuse University.

Both the women and men’s teams are young, talented, and fun to watch!  Catch them every chance you get.

New Baylor Law Facility Chair to Honor Lyndon Olson Sr.

Former ambassador to Sweden and all around Baylor “good guy”, Lyndon Olson Jr. has endowed a professorship in the Law School in memory of his father, Lyndon L. Olson, Sr. and also in honor of his brother, William A. Olson.  The Olson family is synonymous with Baylor.  Congrats and thanks to Lyndon and his wife Kay.
