NO
WINTER HIBERNATION FOR BEARS!
Coach Kim
and Coach Drew delivered huge basketball wins for BU this week by
beating, respectively, OU 74 to 67 and Iowa State 63 to 59.
Previously nationally ranked 19th , the Lady Bears beat 15th ranked
OU at Norman and now sit at 16th in the polls. The men roundballers
won a Big 12 contest that many claimed would not be accomplished
all season. The men also threatened nationally ranked Texas and Texas
Tech until the closing minutes of those games.
How great to have outstanding
coaches with impeccable character having success with hard working
solid athletes!

PHILIP M. DORR AND FRIENDS INVESTMENT FUND SCHOLARSHIP
Friends
of Baylor Steering Committee member Phil Dorr of Chicago will
be in Waco on February
21st to present $100,000 worth of athletic
scholarships generated by the investment fund he seeded for the
Baylor Business School. A combination of Phil’s contribution,
a significant gift from Don Buholtz of Dallas and matching funds
raised by Dean
Terry Maness of the Hankamer School of Business created an endowed
fund and investment center at the Business School. Students manage
the fund and its proceeds are distributed in the form of scholarships.
The near term goal is to build the fund to a $6 million level.
What a marvelous project
and tribute to the creativity of these major donors, the Business
School and our business students. Come
to the Ferrell Center on February 21st for the women's basketball
game, the ceremony and to support Phil. Two football, one women’s
basketball and one men’s basketball student-athletes will
be named beneficiaries of the scholarships.

STUDENT RECRUITMENT
CONTINUES STRONG
Deposits
for the ’04 fall class continue to outpace projections. President
Sloan and his staff are pursuing their barn storming tour of major
churches and schools both in and out of the state. Over 1,000 people
attended the Power Lunch event last Tuesday at Prestonwood where
President Sloan made a terrific appeal on BU’s behalf.
Baylor has a great story
to tell and we are all ambassadors in conveying it. The likelihood
of a great Baylor family emerging from its first graduate is high – HELP
SELL!

MAJOR
LEAGUE SALESMAN
Speaking
of selling, how about Chairman Drayton McLane’s recruitment
of pitchers Andy Pettitte and Roger Clemens to the Astros? You’ll
note that both of these two athletes decisions were based on more
than just contract money
Congrats to our Chairman
and Houston.
