BAYLOR WINS “DORR” PRIZE

At halftime of the Lady Bears basketball game vs. U.T. this Saturday an announcement will be made regarding the distribution from the Philip Dorr Investment Fund towards athletic scholarships. Included in the halftime presentation will be Baylor greats Michael Williams, Robin Jones, Alfred Anderson, Bruce Davis, Tommy Reaux, John Adickes and Ray Berry. Friends of Baylor Steering Committee member Phil Dorr gave the lead gift in establishing the fund that is managed by business school students and is so successful that $450,000 of athletic scholarships have been generated. This is a wonderful asset for both Baylor as well as a great educational experience for our students. Sic’em Phil!

LADY BEARS WIN STREAK ENDS AT 30

Coach Kim and the Lady Bears ran their winning streak to 30 before being upset by the Missouri Tigers Wednesday night. This had been a glorious run and we look forward to the next streak starting Saturday vs. Texas. Coach Kim was also named a finalist for Texan of The Year by the Dallas Morning News. She was more than just a “finalist” to the Baylor family.

CHRIS AND JILL MANNING ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Congrats to FOB members Chris and Jill Manning for the establishment of an endowed scholarship in their name. Scholarships such as this are essential in bridging the financial gap for quality students in our ever-rising tuition environment. If you have ever read or received a letter from one of the students who have benefited from one of these scholarships you would appreciate the impact it has on their lives. Thanks to Chris and Jill and all the other endowed scholarship donors.

PRESIDENT JOHN M. LILLEY ADMINISTRATION BEGINS

This week marks the beginning of Dr. John Lilley’s tenure as President of Baylor University. To illustrate the demands of this job, President Lilley was needed in California to represent the Big XII at the Rose Bowl, Waco to keynote the President’s Community Prayer Breakfast and Washington, D.C. to meet with President Bush and members of his cabinet. We are not quite sure if he has been able to be in his own office yet at Pat Neff. Our prayers of support go out to John and Gerrie during this exceedingly hectic time.

CONGRATS TO DR. PHILLIP DONNELLY

Dr. Phillip Donnelly, Assistant Professor of Great Texts at the Honors College was awarded at the Conference on Christianity and Literature “best article of the year” in their premier Christianity and Literature Journal. Well-done Dr. Donnelly, your distinction is a great asset for Baylor.

COACH DREW READY TO ROLL

Mark it down. January 11th, Waco, TX, Baylor men’s basketball unveiled vs. Texas Tech at 7:00 pm. Coach Drew and his cagers are raring to go and we all need to be there to support them. This team has sacrificed, stayed committed, and may well surprise the Big XII. Coach Drew will lead us back to the “promised land”.
