Where Baylor Shouldn’t Be Like Harvard

Although Baylor 2012 seeks to improve the academic excellence of the University, such pursuit will not come at the expense of Baylor’s core values and Christian mission.  An interesting new book “Excellence Without a Soul,” by former Harvard Dean, Harry Lewis decries how many tier one universities have ceased to stand for anything.  To the contrary, Baylor intends to stand for Christ while producing an outstanding academic experience for its students.  Perhaps Baylor could conduct a Seminar for interested Harvard grads?  Click here to get the full story.

Goodbye Chairman Will and Hello Chairman Jimmy

Austin attorney Will Davis recently concluded his two-year stint as Chairman of the Board of Regents. Will’s tenure saw the resignation of President Sloan, the appointment of Interim President Bill Underwood and the inauguration of President John M. Lilley. Will’s character and commitment to Baylor 2012 steadied Baylor’s course throughout this time of change.  We are all in his debt.  Will’s successor, Jimmy Turner of Dallas is known to all Baylorites.  Jimmy was an outstanding basketball player at BU and has been an even more outstanding financial supporter of Baylor.  Jimmy was also instrumental in the hiring of Coach Drew, Coach Mulkey-Robertson and Athletic Director Ian McCaw.  Good luck Jimmy!
