Carnegie Foundation Classifies Baylor as a “Research University” – Improved Classification is Important Win For Baylor 2012

researchBaylor 2012, the school’s 10-year vision making research a priority, has produced a major dividend with the Carnegie Foundation’s pronouncement of Baylor as a “research university” with “high research activity.”

“I doubt there’s another university in the nation that has increased its research activity, that has increased its Ph.D. production… the way Baylor has in the last five or six years,” said Larry Lyon, Baylor’s vice provost for institutional effectiveness.  “It would be hard to explain those steps outside of the Baylor 2012 vision.”

Lyon also said the research classification could give Baylor an edge over its competitors in securing the George W. Bush presidential library.

Truell Hyde, Baylor’s vice provost for research added that cities and towns with reputable research institutions tend to see a resultant economic windfall, and he expects Baylor to provide such a benefit for Waco.

Congratulations to Dr. Lyon, Dr. Hyde, all of the faculty at Baylor and the architects of Baylor 2012.  The plan is working!

Baylor Ex and Colorado Rockies Pitcher Jason Jennings a Part of Major League Program Guided by Christianity

Jason JenningsFormer Baylor All -American Jason Jennings find himself playing for an organization in the Pro’s that looks and feels just like the one run by Coach Steve Smith at Baylor.  The Colorado Rockies from ownership on down are embracing a Christian-based code of conduct that they believe will bring them focus and success.  Quotes from scripture are painted in the weight room. Chapel service is packed on Sundays.  Players and fellowship groups each Tuesday are well attended. It’s not unusual for the front office executives to pray together.

We thought that the Christian worldview prevalent at Baylor was unique to major universities, however, a major sports franchise with a Christian witness and infrastructure is really a one-of-a-kind challenge.  Sic’em Jason and the Rockies

Baylor Ex Track All-American Bill Adams – Now a Missionary to Siberia!

Baylor track coach Todd Harbor’s roommate at Baylor in the late ‘70’s was All-American distance runner Bill Adams.  After Baylor Bill worked for a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, Athletes in Action, for 18 years.  From 1993 to 1999, he took teams to Siberia and fell in love with the country.  At the same time Bill fell in love with a Christian missionary there, Andrea, who is now his wife and the mother of their 2 children. Together they have helped create Svet Mira (Light of the World Christian Church). Bill was used to running long distances for Baylor but all the way to Siberia?

All-Americans Galore!

Zach DillonChelsea LakeCongrats to Baylor softball players Brette Reagan and Chelsi Lake for being named All-Americans by the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association.  Congrats to their teammate Kelly Osburn for being named by ESPN as an Academic All-American.  ESPN named Baylor men’s senior catcher Zach Dillon as an All-American as well.  National recognition both on and off the field by our student athletes is a great reflection of Baylor.
