RECORD BU FRESHMAN CLASS START TODAY

The powerful combination of outstanding academics in a distinctly Christian environment as envisioned by Vision 2012 has produced a truly amazing freshmen class. Its size (±3,288) and academic credentials (average SAT scores of 1196) are both records. Baylor is blessed to receive into its fold the quality families that this class of 2009 represents as well.

KYLE WOODS

Former BU footballer Kyle Woods, his teammate Robert “Radar” Holt and Coach Teaff were featured in a story in the Dallas Morning News yesterday that is well worth reviewing (click here to read the article). Kyle was tragically paralyzed in 1979 while playing for the Bears and has lived a life thereafter that is truly inspirational. The story also praises of the efforts of Coach Teaff, Radar, and other teammates for supporting Kyle in his disability. A new home for Kyle will be built this year. This story is what Baylor is all about. Kyle and Radar will be in attendance at the Baylor-SMU game on September 3rd as well as a Baylor Letterman pre-game event. Friends of Baylor made a significant contribution to Kyle’s new home and others are encouraged to help by contributing to the “Kyle Woods” fundraising effort at Kyle Woods Trust, c/o Allen Sykes, Extraco Banks, N.A., PO Box 8724, Waco, TX 76714.

FOOTBALL SEASON KICKS OFF SEPTEMBER 3RD VS. SMU

Coach Morriss and his troops will invade SMU’s Ford Stadium one week from this Saturday to hopefully begin a successful season. The game begins at 7:00 pm and the University is hosting a pre-game tent event at 5:00 at the stadium. Baylor has historically matched SMU with fan numbers in Dallas. Everyone come and let’s make it a “home” game for the Bears.

BASKETBALL PRACTICE FACILITY NEEDS FUND RALLY

The desperately needed Baylor basketball practice facility is close to being a financial reality but requires a final push. Coach Kim with her National Championship and Coach Drew with his incredible nationally ranked recruiting class need and deserve this facility. Contact your local development officers to help. Several FOB Steering Committee Members have made significant lead gifts already.

BAYLOR JUMPS TO #78 ON U.S. NEWS AND WORLD REPORT COLLEGE RANKINGS

Congrats to all for helping BU move up 6 spots in the U.S. News and World Report rankings of outstanding colleges and universities. Baylor is improving academically and athletically as suggested by U.S. News and the Sears Cup rankings. We are blessed that BU is headed in the right direction by all measurements.
