“FRIENDS OF BAYLOR” COMMENDS BOARD OF REGENTS FOR VOTE;
Waco, TX (Sept. 12, 2003) – A group of major contributors and prominent alumni leading the Friends of Baylor coalition today commended the Baylor Board of Regents for its vote of confidence in President Robert Sloan and the University’s plans for the future.
“We are pleased that the vast majority of Baylor Regents voted today to continue moving forward with the University’s positive agenda for the future,” said Dary Stone, a donor and Co-Founder of Friends of Baylor. “The Board’s overwhelming support for President Sloan will help unify the Baylor family as we recover from the events of recent weeks and begin to refocus on what’s important.”
Friends of Baylor, a group which includes some of Baylor’s top contributors – representing more than $70 million in giving to the University – applauded the Board for staying the course and continuing to pursue its previously-adopted plan to build upon Baylor’s 158-year tradition of excellence and move the University to the top tier of academic institutions.
“Today’s vote is a clear indication that in spite of the negative agenda being pursued by a few members of the Baylor community, the Board of Regents has listened to the vast majority of Baylor students, alumni and the hundreds of faculty members who have rallied in support of positive leadership for Baylor,” said Clifton Robinson, a Co-Founder of Friends of Baylor who donated $1 million to Baylor earlier this month. “Today, most of the Baylor Regents upheld their duty and responsibility to make decisions that are in the best interest of Baylor University.”
The Baylor Board of Regents voted 31 to 4 in support of President Sloan’s Administration.
“We applaud the Baylor Board of Regents for sending a resounding message that it’s time for Baylor University to move on from the tragic events of the summer and continue moving forward in a positive direction,” said Robinson.
