DAN NOVAK
It is with great sadness that we report the very premature death of Dan Novak. Dan, 47, is survived by his wife, Kristi, and his three children, Casey, Courtney, and Cody. Dan was the brother-in-law of Friends of Baylor Steering Committee members Ron and Cheryl Murff and Kirk and Kim Davis. Please remember the Novak, Murff and Davis families in your prayers.

BEARS 3- 0
The Bears are off to the best start since 1991 after a 20-10 win over Army at West Point gave them their third victory of the young season. A great Baylor crowd of over 1500 traveled to New York to support the Bears. Fan support at both away games this year as well as the Parent’s Weekend crowd for the Samford game have been super. Off this weekend, Baylor travels to A&M October 1st for a 11:30 am televised rematch of last year’s upset of the Aggies. Show up or tune in for the expected battle.

PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH
The Regents continue their methodical search for Baylor’s next President. The list of candidates appears to alternatively shrink and swell with possibilities. The most recent development was the withdrawal by Interim President Bill Underwood of his candidacy for the permanent post.

The process seems exceedingly long to many while others argue that it seems “rushed”. Regardless of your time line perspective, filling this position is no easy task. Consider these job qualifiers: Must be (1) Baptist preferably with an understanding and experience with Texas Baptists, (2) academically qualified – either by degree or University executive experience, (3) outstanding at managing an organization such as another University, University department, business, ministry, church or charity, and (4) be gifted as a fundraiser and public speaker.

A similar struggle for just the right fit occurred over 10 years ago when Dr. Sloan was ultimately selected. Pray for this search committee and this Board as there are more challenges than most appreciate.

BAYLOR REGENTS APPROVE BASKETBALL PRACTICE FACILITY
Ground breaking is expected to begin October 1st on the new $7.9 million state-of-the-art facility. Congrats Coach Kim and Coach Drew! You guys deserve it! Thanks to several key Friends of Baylor Steering Committee members for their significant gifts that helped to make this project a reality.

BAYLOR INVITED TO JOIN NATIONAL PHYSICS RESEARCH LAB
Another great example of the power of Vision 2012 is the selection of Baylor for membership in the prestigious Universities Space Research Association. Congrats to Dr. Truell Hyde, vice provost for research and professor of physics on this tremendous accomplishment. These academic distinctions are very valuable to Baylor.
