N.Y. TIMES LIKES BAYLOR? Believe it or not Bear Fans the N.Y. Times actually published a great article about Baylor yesterday (click here). It is very important to note that Baylor’s unique quest, even with the attendant discord, is drawing international interest. The N.Y. Times has identified and publicized worldwide the “difference” at Baylor. We can’t put a price tag on this recognition nor can we calculate the opportunity cost if Baylor lost this edge. WELCOME GREAT NEW FOB LEADERS We are pleased to announce several prominent Baylor supporters as new FOB members: Larry Hickman of Tyler, TX - Larry is remembered by many as an All SWC football player at Baylor in 1958; Mike Toomey of Austin, TX - Mike to our knowledge is the first man to serve two different Governors as their Chief of Staff, Governor Bill Clements and through Friday Governor Rick Perry; Frank Marshall of Dallas, TX – Frank is one of the best known bankers in Texas; Carroll Overton of Austin, TX – Carroll is another member of the talented Class of 1958 and a well known contractor in Austin; Dickie Clark of Waco, TX – Dickie is a well regarded attorney in Waco and a member of the Class of 1960. What terrific assets Baylor has in these leaders. FOB is proud to claim them and wish we could announce all of our new members each week. This bunch was too “notorious” not to mention.
BEARS VS. TEXAS STATE (SWTSU) The Bears kick off at home this Saturday, September 11 at 6:00 pm vs. Texas State. The heavy early betting (just the pretend Baptist kind) says that Coach Morriss will have these guys a little more “alert” than they were in Alabama last week. We would hate to witness the locker room ‘speech’ if they are not. Coach Morriss and his staff have our confidence and support. Lets show it Saturday and show up!
SPEAKING OF TOUGH OL’ BEARS…… You gotta read FOB Steering Committee members Clifton Robinson and Jim Hawkins’ letter in the Waco Tribune this past weekend (click here). We are checking to see if they have any eligibility left and if so, let Coach Morriss suit them up. Clifton is our renowned founder and Co-Chair. Jim is also a new Steering Committee member and a fabulous Waco businessman and Baylor supporter. Jim donated the funds for our great scoreboard at Floyd Casey Stadium.
