Friends of Baylor Stepping Up

Friends of Baylor and individual members of the Friends of Baylor Steering Committee have stepped up in a major way to support a number of important Baylor causes and projects this month. It was the distinct privilege of the group led by Lance Byrd, Chris Manning, Larry Heard, Ted Getterman, Cary Gray and Paul McClinton to underwrite the Coach Art Briles Football Camp this summer. Friends of Baylor also underwrote last year’s “Coach Scott Drew Elite Camp”. Coach Kim Mulkey had some special needs for her staff that were graciously supported through the Excellence Fund by the ever faithful Jim and Nell Hawkins family. Last, but by no means least in terms of excitement is the completion of the Kyle Woods home. Lead by Friends of Baylor Steering Committee icon, Coach Grant Teaff, the wonderful handicap friendly home project for injured BU football player Kyle Woods will be ready for move-in next Sunday, May 18th. There will be an open house from 3-5 for all those who have graciously contributed to this project. Friends of Baylor has been a major sponsor of this effort by Coach Teaff and we congratulate both Coach and Professor L.M. Dyson for its successful conclusion.

BU Law School Wins “Bar” Contest

Baylor Law School

By the way, the “bar” we refer to is that of the State Bar of Texas, not “George’s”, and the contest is the Bar exam for aspiring attorneys in Texas. As expected, Baylor led all Texas Law Schools with its passage rate of 98.6% on the February Bar Exam. Pick your period of measurement 1,3,5,10,15,20 years and Baylor Law School beats all comers. Congrats to Dean Brad Toben and the outstanding faculty of the Law School for giving us such a highly rated academic unit. Thanks also to Baylor Law grads such as John Eddie Williams and Walter Umphrey and their generosity that so directly influenced the future successes of the Law School.

BU logoRegents Coming to Town

Harold Cunningham The Baylor Board of Regents return to campus this Thursday for their quarterly meeting. This meeting marks the end of Harold Cunningham’s successful tenure as Chairman of the Board of Regents. Under Chair Cunningham’s leadership, Coach Art Briles was hired, Coach Scott Drew’s contract was extended, Baylor 2012 was advanced on many fronts, and to the delight of all Baylor fans, the BU logo was rescued! Harold was probably the most knowledgeable Board Chair ever due to his life long service to Baylor and especially his stint as Baylor’s CFO. Harold may also be the most accessible Chair ever as he and wife Ann rarely miss a Baylor sporting event. Congrats, Sic’em and thanks Chairman Cunningham.
