Hogs Avoid Bear Trap
Arkansas slips by Baylor in Dallas 85-78
Dadgumit, we had ’em but let them loose at the end! Scott Drew’s hoopsters gave a massive Baylor crowd at the American Airlines Center a terrific show, leading the Arkansas Razorbacks for the greatest part of the game, yet yielding in the last 2 minutes. In summary, Baylor should have won, we have great talent, had a home field crowd and quite frankly, expected to beat Arkansas. Therein lies the good news, this team is good enough to expect to compete with the best programs in the country and will do so.
The overall event was a fabulous success for Baylor. Baylor directly sold over 8,000 tickets and clearly dominated the American Airlines Center. Pre-game events by the Letterwinners Association, Bear Foundation and Baylor Network were well planned, well attended and spirit filled. Baylor head football coach Art Briles and his wife Jan made appearances at each event as well as the half-time festivities of the game. Coach Briles was warmly received and did a great job building enthusiasm for our gridiron prospects. But for about 120 seconds, the entire evening was perfect.
Congrats to Athletic Director Ian McCaw, Bear Foundation Director Doug Smith and Letterwinners Association Director Walter Abercrombie for producing such a great event. Thanks to the Baylor family for such a huge show of support as well. Friends of Baylor Steering Committee members sighted in the throng included Scott Livesay and Carroll Webb of Waco, Milton Hixson of Austin, Bill Pratt of Fort Worth, Rosie and Arnie Cavazos, Craig Hodges, Chris Manning, Robin Jones and Lance Byrd of Dallas and even David Ellis of Arizona!
The Bears tip off Tuesday night against Brown at 7:00 pm CST. Lets support them!
Dr. Robert Sloan to be Honored
Former BU President Dr. Robert Sloan and his (very large!) family will be on campus Tuesday for the unveiling of his official Presidential portrait. Now President of Houston Baptist University, Dr. Sloan is largely given credit for Baylor 2012 which began as a vision and now is the great reality of progress at Baylor. Sic’em Robert, Sue and Sloan family and welcome home.
A New Row to Hoe for Pete
Baylor football fixture Pete Rowe has relocated to the Baylor Alumni Association effective the first of the year. Pete, well known as the historian of Baylor football, is rumored to even be wearing a tie these days. Curious minds want to know if ol’ Pete will fry fish in a suit now. Congrats and Sic’em Pete!

Prayers for the Singletary Family
Baylor icon and former football great Mike Singletary lost his father last week and services were held in Houston on Saturday. Mike and his wife Kim are a very important part of the Baylor family which includes two Singletary students currently on campus. We ask for your prayerful support of the Singletary family.
