Friends of Baylor Honors Coach Kim

200 roses for 200 wins

Kim Mulkey's 200 roses

Friends of Baylor representative, Nell Hawkins, along with Chairman of the Board of Regents Harold Cunningham and Athletic Director Ian McCaw surprised Coach Mulkey with 200 red roses last Thursday in honor of Kim’s historic 200th win as a head coach. Of course, Kim put us one rose short by trouncing Nebraska 76-56 on Saturday for win #201. Pre-game festivities at the Nebraska game included a surprise ceremony for Coach Kim by President Lilley, Ian McCaw and the Tip-Off Club that included video highlights of her coaching career at Baylor. It was a great moment for Coach Kim, a great game for the Lady Bears and a great event for the almost 8,000 fans in attendance.

Sic’em Coach Kim!

Brazos Basketball Blast!

World class sports day for Baylor fans

Alright, it would have been more perfect if the Baylor men had defeated Oklahoma Saturday to go along with the Lady Bear’s victory over Nebraska. However, a sold-out, loud, rowdy, men’s game and a nearly sold out Lady Bear’s game just a few hours later was a dynamic double header for Baylor fans. Imagine, back-to-back games by ranked Baylor teams against large state universities and Big 12 competitors. This kind of stuff usually only happens on campuses like Duke and North Carolina. But look where we are!

Ferrell Center was outrageously loud for both games. The first rows of the arena were stacked with Friends of Baylor Steering Committee members: Clifton and Betsy Robinson, Jim and Nell Hawkins, Rondy and Jackie Gray, Ron Murff, Kevin Cherry, Chris and Jill Manning, Kirk Davis, Carroll Webb, Joe and Bessie Baxter, Bill Bailey and many others. Students, who had waited an hour and a half in line in the cold rain for tickets, were bouncing off the walls with excitement. It was a great time to be a Baylor fan.

The women overcame a 10-point deficit to ultimately “cruise” in the end. Coach Drew’s band of sharpshooters overcame a 16-point deficit to claim the lead with a minute to play only to see it wiped away by one critical exchange. Both teams were terrific as was the crowd and all of the wonderful people in the Athletic Department who supported this great day!

Sic’em Bears!
